Abstract: (9 Views)
Background: Blended families are formed from the merger of two or more previous families and have a complex and challenging structure. Teenagers who grow up in blended families are at greater risk of psychological and social problems compared to teenagers who grow up in nuclear families. So far, the development and evaluation of self-help educational packages for adolescents from blended families in Iran has not been seriously studied.
Aims: The aim of this study was to develop and validate a self-help educational package based on the lived experiences of adolescents from blended families in Yazd.
Methods: This research was conducted with a qualitative approach and descriptive phenomenological method. The study population included all adolescents girls living in blended families in Yazd city. Using purposive sampling, the first adolescent from the blended family was selected, and then the sampling process continued until the data reached saturation (11 individuals). Data for this study were also collected using semi-structured interviews. The Collaizi (1978) method was used to analyze the research data. Also, MAXQDA-20 software was used to analyze the extracted data more accurately.
Results: The final analysis of the lived experiences of adolescents in blended families identified 19 subthemes and six main themes, including resilience, acceptance of differences, communication challenges, need for attention and support, independence and responsibility, and a sense of worth. Also, based on the sub-themes and main themes discovered in this study, an educational package for self-help for adolescents in blended families was developed, the validity of which was confirmed by experts.
Conclusion: Given the validation of the self-help educational package based on the lived experiences of adolescents from blended families in the present study, adolescent therapists and school counselors can use this educational package in individual and group sessions with adolescents from blended families who face similar challenges.
