Background: Symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder begin in childhood for most people. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is one of the effective therapeutic approaches for treating symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder in children and family accomadation of their parents, but there is a research gap regarding the efficacy of module-based cognitive-behavioral therapy on symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder in children and family accomadation of their parents.
Aims: The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of module-based cognitive-behavioral therapy on clinical symptoms of children with obsessive-compulsive disorder and family accomadation of their parents in a single-case design with multiple baseline.
Methods: The method of this study was a single- case quasi-experimental multiple baseline design with different subjects. The statistical population of the study included all children with obsessive-compulsive disorder and their mothers in 2025 who had referred to Ofogh Psychiatry and Neuroscience Center and Psychiatric Clinic of 5 Azar Hospital in Gorgan for treatment services, Among them, 3 children with obsessive-compulsive disorder were selected using Purpose-based Convenience sampling after being diagnosed by a psychiatrist. Data collection tools in this study included the Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory–Child Version (Foa et al., 2010) and the Family Accommodation Scale-Anxiety (Lebowitz et al., 2013). Also, to analyze the data of this study, the visual analysis method and the methods of percentage of non-overlapping data and percentage of all non-overlapping data were used as an indicator of effect size, as well as the percentage of improvement using the mean reduction method from baseline.
Results: The results showed that module-based cognitive-behavioral therapy reduced the severity of Clinical Symptoms of Children with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and family accomadation of their parents (P<0.05), so that Percent of improvement for the first, second and third patient in Clinical Symptoms was58/44%, 55% and 51/59% and in family accomadation of their parents was 58/20%, 65/71% and 61/29%, respectively. Visual analyses and the results of inter-positional and intra-positional analysis showed a significant difference between baseline and intervention stage for all subjects (PND>70, PAND>50). The persistence of the efficacy of module-based cognitive-behavioral therapy in the follow-up stage was confirmed.
Conclusion: According to the findings of the present study, it is suggested that module-based cognitive-behavioral therapy be used by child psychologists and psychiatrists to reduce symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder in children and family accomadation of their parents.
