Background: Addiction to social networks refers to strong uncontrollable urges and urges to use mobile phones. The cause of this addiction can be a factor such as childhood traumas. Regarding the relationship between childhood traumas and addiction to mobile-based social networks, there is a gap in research regarding the variable of mindfulness.
Aims: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the moderating role of mindfulness in the relationship between childhood trauma and addiction to mobile-based social networks in the high school students of Khorramabad city.
Methods: The descriptive research method was of the correlation type and the statistical population included all students of the high school in Khorramabad city in the academic year of 1401-1402. The statistical sample included 315 people (176 boys and 139 girls) who were selected by multi-stage cluster method. Data collection tools include the addiction to mobile based social networks Questionnaire (Khaja Ahmadi, 2016); It was the Mindfulness Questionnaire (Brown and Ryan, 2003) and the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (Bernstein et al., 2003). The obtained data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchical adjusted regression and using SPSS-26 software.
Results: The results showed that the effect of childhood traumas on students' addiction to mobile based social networks is positive and significant (r= 0.75, P< 0.01) and explains 75% of its changes. Also, the findings of moderated regression analysis confirmed the moderating role of mindfulness in the relationship between childhood trauma and students' addiction to mobile-based social networks (F= 19.44, P< 0.01).
Conclusion: According to the obtained findings, it can be said that childhood trauma is an important factor in increasing students' addiction to mobile-based social networks, that high mindfulness reduces this effect and mindfulness down increases this effect.
