Background: The mental health care system is facing a new challenge: dealing with the psychological aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic in the post-corona era. While numerous studies have explored the impact of Covid-19 on mental health and academic performance, research on how the history of the disease will affect students' mental health and academic performance in the post-corona era has been overlooked.
Aims: This study aims to compare the mental health and academic achievements of students who have been affected by COVID-19 and those who have not.
Methods: The current research was designed as a causal-comparative method. The study included all Tabriz University students in August-September 2022 (N=24000). The research sample consisted of 60 students selected through the available sampling method from a group of 200 Tabriz University students. The sample included 30 students who had previously contracted COVID-19 and 30 students without a history of COVID-19 (comparison group) selected using the matching method. The researcher used the demographic characteristics questionnaire made by the researcher and the general health questionnaire of Goldberg (1972) to collect information. The research data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance with SPSS 26 software.
Results: The obtained information was analyzed using a multivariate analysis of variance test. The results showed that there was a significant difference between students with a history of covid-19 and non-infected students in all dimensions of general health except depression and academic performance at a significance level of 0.05.
Conclusion: Based on the results, it appears that experiencing epidemic diseases like covid-19 can lead to a decline in students' mental health and academic performance. This should be taken into account in macro health management programs.
