Background: Orphans and Mistreated adolescent in quasi-family centers face problems that require intervention. Despite the fact that various therapeutic approaches have been used to solve problems in this group of adolescents, they still face problems in the field of emotional intelligence and self-compassion, which necessitates the use of educational and therapeutic interventions to strengthen these issues.
Aims: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of an emotional intelligence training package based on the Bar-On theory with the psychodrama method on the emotional intelligence and self-compassion of adolescent girls in foster care centers under the welfare organization.
Methods: The method of this study was a semi-experimental pretest-posttest design with a control group and a two-month follow-up. The statistical population of the study included all adolescent girls living in 10 in foster care Centers (200 adolescents aged 13 to 18) in Foster Care Centers under the welfare office of Mashhad in the first six months of 2024. To determine the sample group in this study, Convenience sampling method was used. The sample size was 30 people, including 15 people in the experimental group and 15 people in the control group, who were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). Data collection tools in this study included the Self-Compassion Scale (Neff, 2003) and the Emotional Quotient Inventory (Bar-On,1997). Also, a researcher-made emotional intelligence training package based on Barr-Onn theory using the psychodrama method was implemented for the experimental group in the form of 12 weekly 90 -minute sessions. Research data analysis was also performed using the variance analysis with repeated measurement and using SPSS-24 software.
Results: The results showed that the researcher-made emotional intelligence training package based on the Barr-On theory with the psychodrama method was effective in increasing emotional intelligence and self-compassion and their components iof adolescent girls in in foster care centers under the welfare organization (P<0.001). The results also indicated that the efficacy of the researcher-developed educational package remained stable during the follow-up phase.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, implementing this educational package in in foster care centers under the welfare organization is recommended as an empowering complementary program to increase emotional intelligence and compassion for adolescents residing in these centers.
