Abstract:   (383 Views)
Background: Oppositional disobedience disorder is the most common disorder of childhood and adolescence. The existence of oppositional disobedience disorder in childhood and adolescence creates the risk of a wide range of future psychopathology in adulthood.
Aims: The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of group schema therapy and social-emotional skills training on social competence and aggression in boy adolescents with confrontational disobedience.
Methods: The research design was applied in terms of purpose and quasi-experimental methods in a series of pre-test-posttest designs with a control group. The statistical population included all male students with oppositional defiant disorder who were studying in the first high school period in Babolsar in the academic year 2022-2023. The sample consisted of 45 students with oppositional defiant disorder who were selected by purposive sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. Social competence (Cohen et al., 1972) and aggression (Novaco, 1986) questionnaires were used to collect the research data. The experimental group received group schema therapy under the educational program (Young et al., 2003) for 20 sessions of 60 minutes. Also, the group received social and emotional skills training through the educational program (Sadri Damirchi, 2010) in 12 sessions of 90 minutes. SPSS.26 software and multivariate analysis of covariance were used to analyze the data.
Results: The results of multivariate analysis of covariance showed that there was a significant difference between the mean scores of social competence and aggression between experimental and control groups. The results of Bonferroni post hoc tests showed that there was no significant difference between group schema therapy and social-emotional skills training in terms of effectiveness on social competence and aggression in adolescents with oppositional defiant disobedience.
Conclusion: Based on the research findings, it can be said that the effect of group schema therapy and social-emotional skills training on social competence and aggression of boys with confrontational disobedience is the same, and for solving the problems of these adolescents both therapeutic interventions can be used.
