Background: This study was conducted to identify the psychological factors affecting the perception of female and male students in Tehran in using math textbooks. The study demonstrates that girls and boys may have different attitudes towards math textbooks, and some psychological factors may have a more significant impact on them.
Methods: In the first step, to understand the formation of the concept, extract themes, concepts, and relationships, and achieve a conceptual model in this area, an interpretive phenomenological method and a semi-structured interview tool were used with 12 experts. In the second step, to generalize the results and analyze them, data were collected in the form of a questionnaire from 364 female and male students and were analyzed using SmartPLS3 and SPSS software.
Results: By confirming the structural model of the study, it was found that the formation of the concept of the indicators of the perception of female and male students in Tehran in using math textbooks includes 6 components and 17 related concepts. The results of the study show that the influence between the components in the quantitative study is at an appropriate and necessary level.
Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that psychological factors can have a considerable impact on students' perception. Teaching methods and the way material is presented can influence students' perception and change their perspectives.
