Background: Chronic kidney disease is a major health problem that is expected to increase as the prevalence of its risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, obesity, high blood pressure and aging populations. Therefore, in order to improve the mental health indicators of these people, investigating the psychological constructs affecting the disease is an inevitable necessity.
Aims: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between resilience and self-efficacy with social adjustment of dialysis patients.
Methods: The research method is descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of this study was all dialysis patients referred to Imam Reza Hospital in Ahvaz in 2018. The sample consisted of 56 dialysis patients of Imam Reza Hospital who were selected by convenience sampling method and responded to social adjustment questionnaire (Paykel & Weissman, 1999), Resilience Scale (Connor and Davidson, 2003) and self-efficacy Scale (Sherer et al, 1982) The collected data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regression using SPSS.27 software.
Results: The results of Pearson correlation coefficient showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between perception of self-efficacy and resilience with social adjustment of dialysis
(P< 0/001). The results of multivariate regression using the inclusion method showed that self-efficacy and resilience perception explained 1.6% of the variance of social adjustment in dialysis patients.
Conclusion: According to these findings, it can be concluded that by teaching resilience and self-efficacy skills along with therapeutic interventions in the hospital, a significant share of social adjustment changes can be improved in these patients, and by improving these constructs, the psychological variables explaining social adjustment in dialysis patients can be improved.
