Background: The increase in psychological, behavioral, and sexual aversions among couples seeking divorce has become one of the major issues in marital relationships. Research indicates that poor communication skills and a decline in marital satisfaction are key factors that exacerbate these aversions. Researchers have designed a family-centered psychological intervention program aimed at enhancing communication skills and improving marital satisfaction. However, there is a research gap regarding the effectiveness of such interventions in reducing psychological, behavioral, and sexual aversions in couples seeking divorce, and further scientific evaluation in this area is required.
Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the family-centered psychological intervention program, based on improving communication skills and enhancing marital satisfaction, in reducing psychological, behavioral, and sexual aversions among couples seeking divorce.
Methods: The research method was a quasi-experimental pre-test post-test design with a control group and a two-month follow-up. The research population included all couples seeking divorce in Shiraz in 2024, from which 30 families were selected through purposive sampling. The participants responded to a researcher-developed scale measuring psychological, behavioral, and sexual aversions. The experimental group participated in 10 sessions of the tailored therapeutic package, each lasting 90-110 minutes, while the control group received no intervention until the end of the follow-up period.
Results: The data analysis results indicated that the family-centered psychological intervention program had a significant effect on reducing psychological, behavioral, and sexual aversions among couples seeking divorce (P< 0.05). The results remained significant and stable after the two-month follow-up (P< 0.05).
Conclusion: Given the positive effectiveness of the family-centered psychological interventions, based on enhancing communication skills and improving marital satisfaction, in reducing psychological, behavioral, and sexual aversions among couples seeking divorce, it is recommended that counseling and family support organizations implement similar educational programs for couples involved in marital conflicts.
