Abstract:   (93 Views)
Background: Experiencing childhood trauma has a devastating impact on a person's quality of life and mental health in adulthood. Despite numerous studies on the relationship between mindfulness and psychological well-being, the mediating role of mindfulness in the relationship between childhood trauma and psychological well-being in the PERMA model has not been specifically investigated.
Aims: The purpose of this study was to predict psychological well-being in the PERMA model based on childhood trauma with the mediating role of mindfulness.
Methods: The present study was a descriptive, correlational study using the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. The statistical population of the study included all women and men aged 25 to 55 who had experienced childhood trauma throughout the country in 2024 during the three-month period of September, October and November. Among them, 710 people (533 women and 177 men) were selected using Stratified Sampling. They were asked to complete the The PERMA - profiler (Butler & Kern, 2016), the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (Bernstein et al., 2003), and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (Brown & Ryan, 2003) online. Also, data analysis was performed using structural equation modeling and SPSS-26 and AMOS-24 software.
Results: The results showed that emotional abuse (β = -0.05, sig = 0.009) and physical neglect (β = -0.04, sig = 0.010) had significant indirect effects on psychological well-being through the mediation of trait mindfulness. However, physical abuse did not have a significant effect on psychological well-being through the mediation of trait mindfulness
Conclusion: Experiencing emotional abuse and physical neglect during adulthood impacts a person's well-being by reducing mindfulness negatively. The results of this study can help develop mindfulness training programs in workplaces, schools, and counseling centers for people who have experienced childhood trauma.
