Abstract:   (3 Views)
Background: In recent years, the use of innovative teaching methods, especially artistic methods and graphic organizers, has gained attention in education to enhance deep learning among students. Deep learning refers to a conceptual and sustainable understanding of educational materials that can be strengthened through creative methods. However, existing research has primarily focused on the impact of each of these methods separately, with less investigation into the comparative effectiveness of these two approaches within a research framework. This research gap highlights the need for a study that compares the impact of both methods on deep learning among elementary school students in social studies.
Aims: This research aims to compare the effectiveness of using artistic methods and graphic organizers on deep learning in elementary school students in social studies.
Methods: The present study employed a quasi-experimental design of pre-test and post-test with a control group. The statistical population included all elementary school students enrolled in public daily schools in the city of Karbala in the year 2023, totaling 3,222 students. Among these, 94 students were selected as the research sample through convenience sampling. The data collection tool was the Deep Learning Questionnaire (Alfil, 2018). Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA) with SPSS software version 27.
Results: The findings revealed a significant difference between the two experimental groups in all components of deep learning, except for the component of recall and memory (p < 0.05). Additionally, a significant difference was observed between both experimental groups compared to the control group in all components related to deep learning (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the examination of mean differences indicated that the group taught using artistic methods demonstrated greater effectiveness.
Conclusion: Considering the practical implications of this study, it can be concluded that teachers and curriculum designers should incorporate these methods into their teaching processes and use them as tools to enhance the understanding of complex concepts and increase student motivation and engagement. The outcomes of this research could lead to improvements in educational quality and enhance learning outcomes among students, especially in subjects requiring critical thinking and deep understanding.
